Ayurvedic massage

Massages, including a massage with a rough brush, are inseparable elements of Ayurvedic culture. I invite you to familiarize yourself with its basic principles.

Ayurveda - traditional Indian medicine

The term "Ayurveda" is a combination of the words ajuh - "life" and veda - "knowledge of life" or "course of life". Ayurveda deals with physical, mental and spiritual health, it is fully recognized by the World Health Organization as a medical science, similarly to traditional Chinese medicine.

According to Ayurveda, everything is made up of the five elements ("pancha mahabhutas"). These elements are: ether (akasha), air (vayu), fire (agni), water (jala) and earth (prythvi). Living beings have one more element: it is prana. Prana is the life force, the basic energy responsible for physical, mental and spiritual health and strength.

Massage in Ayurvedic medicine

Massage is a therapy that allows you to unblock the energy channels (nadi) for the proper flow of vital energy.

  • Abhyanga Abhyanga massage is part of the traditional Ayurvedic cleansing and rejuvenating program called panchakarma. The massage is performed using a large amount of warm sesame oil. During the massage, toxins are removed from the body, energy channels are unblocked, allowing the free flow of life energy. Abhyanga massage begins with a head massage, which can be done dry or with sesame oil. Massage increases mental and physical performance.
  • Garszana Massage with rough gloves made of raw silk or special rough brushes made of natural plant fiber. It works like a peeling. In beauty salons, it is used in anti-cellulite and slimming therapies.
  • Shirodhara - massage for the third eye Very deeply relaxing, almost has a trance effect. It consists in pouring the forehead - around the so-called third eye and hair roots with a stream of warm liquid (e.g. herbal oil). The person undergoing the treatment lies on his back, on a massage table, and the therapeutic fluid flows over the head and hair for a certain amount of time. For pouring, a special vessel is used, suspended on a stand above the patient's head, so that the stream of liquid flows down from a height of 8-10 cm in a continuous, uninterrupted, slow and uniform manner.
